Local government in Wiltshire is changing – a new council will be
created on April 1st 2009 to deliver services previously provided by
the county council and four district councils.
Moving from five councils to one will cut confusion and provide
better value for money too. It will be different and it will be
local.
Wiltshire Council is the name of your new council; it will replace Wiltshire County Council, Kennet District Council, North Wiltshire District Council, West Wiltshire District Council and Salisbury District Council.
The move to one council was approved by government. It makes sense to change the current system as there are savings to be made by removing duplication and combining resources and assets. We are also able to share good ways of working across the county in order to provide the best possible services consistently to all our residents.
From a supplier perspective it will mean that you will no longer
need to contact five different organisations and follow potentially
five different procurement processes in order to win new business
for what in many cases will involve providing the same or similar
services.
Having a single council to deal with will also allow potential
suppliers to gain an understanding of a consistent approach on how
to do business with the council.
